Tina Turner was not only an undisputed legend who launched hits such as “Private Dancer” or “The Best”. She is also a woman who managed to escape from her abusive husband and be an example and support for victims of violence. When she announced that she was retiring, the fans couldn’t accept it. They stopped her on the street, in restaurants, and even in the toilet.

On May 24, she died. The legendary artist passed away at her home in Switzerland at the age of 83 after a long illness. She had been struggling with health problems for years. In 2013, she had a stroke, then the singer was diagnosed with intestinal cancer, and in 2017 she underwent a kidney transplant. Nevertheless, when she appeared on stage, positive energy radiated from her, and a wide smile did not leave her face.

Turner was one of the most charismatic singers in the world. During live performances, she was able to warm up gigantic crowds. In the 1980s and 1990s, it filled entire stadiums and broke record sales records. In 2000, to the despair of fans, Turner announced her retirement and said goodbye to fans with a bang, having played 121 concerts in just one year.

However, she did not last long without singing and in 2008 she returned to the stage. The last concert of the great star took place on May 5, 2009 in Sheffield, Great Britain. The artist was then 70 years old. In interviews, she said that it was the fans who pushed her to come back for more concerts. Like The Rolling Stones, after performing at the Grammy Awards where she sang with , Turner couldn’t help but ask when she could be heard live again. “People came up to me in restaurants, on the street, in the women’s restroom, leaving notes on napkins. Some were very touching. They wrote that the story of my life or one of the songs helped them a lot. I called the manager and said it was time,” Tina said.

During the last concerts, the artist performed a unique set for fans summarizing her career. She sang great original hits such as “Private Dancer” or “The Best”, but there were also well-known covers – “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” by the Stones or “The Acid Queen” by The Who. The highlight of Tina’s last concert was the performance of “Proud Mary”. The artist sang the song live over 1,000 times during her career, and when she performed the hit for the last time, she gave her all and provided the audience with a spectacular show.
