The thriller with the working name “The Island” was supposed to star the Oscar winner for the movie “Joker” – and Rooney Mara, known from “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. The actors met on the set of the touching film “Her”, and since 2016 they have been a private couple. Shooting for Pawlikowski’s production was supposed to start in May, but according to Deadline, work on the set was suspended just before the first slap. The actors arrived in Spain ready to work, but were sent home.
The reason for this turn of events is the strike planned for July 1 SAG-AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists). The insurance company that was supposed to oversee the production refused to cooperate with the creators in connection with the problems that the protest could cause. Insurers observing, among others, the strike of the WGA – an organization associating screenwriters, are starting to refuse new clients. A similar situation took place during the pandemic, and its effects were deplorable mainly for members of SAG-AFTRA itself.
