For years there has been talk of alleged and various abuses committed against members of the Menudo group throughout its history between 1977 and 2002, cases that have come to light again thanks to a recent complaint filed by Roy Roselló.
But another of the young singers psychologically marked by these crimes is the Puerto Rican Ray Reyes, who was in the band for only two years before his sudden and thunderous departure in 1985.

The former Menudo member died of a heart attack in April 2021, after confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic intensified the depression that, according to his brother Raúl Reyes, he carried like a cross for several years.
This was reported by the man during an interview with Telemundo, in which he pointed out that his brother was indeed harassed by several adults, who tried to force the young man to agree to be with them.

“You don’t know you won’t like it until you try it,” Ray Reyes was told about gay relationships during his brief stint in the band, long enough for his personality to change completely.
“I understand that he must have been sexually harassed,” Raúl said in televised remarks.

Another important point in the interview was that Ray Reyes, despite suffering labor exploitation and sexual harassment, always cared for his brother and even prevented him from joining the ranks of the group.
And that is that Raúl points out that when he was young he also wanted to be a part of Menud so they could enjoy the music together, to which he always got the answer: “No Raúl, get it out of your head […] You don’t think like that, you don’t think like that.”
