Ray Stevenson is dead. The actor was best known for his role as Volstagg in Marvel’s Thor. He also played The Punisher and Scott Buxton in the Oscar-winning film RRR. He was 58 years old.

Stevenson’s death was reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The actor died on Sunday, May 21 in Italy. He was supposed to celebrate his birthday in four days, and he did not live to see the premiere of the series “Ashoka” from the Star Wars universe with his participation. The cause of the actor’s death has not been disclosed. The Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported that Stevenson was recently hospitalized while filming “Cassino in Ischia”.

Fans of the actor will remember him as Frank Castle from the movie “Punisher: War Zone”. The actor also played the mighty Volstagg in a series of films about the god of thunder – Thor. In addition, Stevenson could be seen in “Kill an Irishman”, “King Arthur”, the famous series “Dexter”, “Vikings” and animated series “”.

According to IMDB, the actor started his career quite late. He started playing at the age of 25. Apart from cinema, he was fascinated by art, especially painting. Stevenson worked as an interior designer for a while, but then went to an acting school in Bristol. He made his screen debut in the 1998 film “The Theory of Flight” alongside Helena Bonham Carter. The actor also performed in theaters. In 2000, he played Jesus Christ in York Mystery Plays, and his most famous stage role is perhaps that of the Cardinal in John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi at the Royal National Theater in 2003.
