The hormone supports the production of sebum, and its excess makes the skin oily. – The skin on the head and face has sebaceous glands at the base of the hair follicles that produce an oily, waxy liquid. It lubricates and provides a protective barrier for our skin and hair, explained dermatologist Ophelia Veraitch in an interview with the portal. It will look different for everyone: in one person, the hair will start to get very oily a few days before the period, in another only on the day of bleeding.

Veraitch advises not to wash your hair every day during your period, even if it doesn’t look well-groomed. – I suggest not washing your hair more than two to three times a week. If you wash with strong shampoos too often, your scalp will simply start producing more oil, said the dermatologist. During menstruation, it is best to wash your hair with a gentle, cleansing shampoo that will remove excess oil. You can also use dry shampoo. “This will dry out the oil on the scalp, which will help with the unpleasant feeling of greasy hair,” added Ophelia.

In addition, it is also worth taking care of the hygiene of your hairbrush. Clean it of dust and hidden dirt. The doctor also recommends taking vitamins that contain iron, zinc, selenium, B12, folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin D. A great home remedy for greasy hair is a rinse with water and apple cider vinegar. Mix 0.5 liters of water with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo, apply the mixture and leave for 10 minutes. After this time, rinse with lukewarm water, and finally apply conditioner to the ends of the hair.
