Although the former president can count on a much higher rate than the average citizen, he is still forced to take up various jobs to supplement the household budget.

In 1967, Lech Wałęsa began working at the Gdańsk Shipyard, thus becoming a trade union activist. For years, he was active on the Polish political scene, gaining recognition and support among citizens. In the years 1990-1995, he even served as the president of the Republic of Poland. After the end of his term, he was involved in opposition activities, including Committee for the Defense of Democracy. Currently, Lech Wałęsa is retired. Although he has been receiving ZUS benefits for almost 15 years, he still cannot enjoy a peaceful old age.

Some time ago, in an interview for the portal, Wałęsa revealed that his wife manages his finances. “He takes everything from me and spends it on his needs,” he said, admitting that he also felt the inflation-related rise in prices. In addition, the former activist of “Solidarity” also financially supports his adult children. “I have to because they expect it. As the popular proverb says: Whoever has bees has honey, who has children has hardship. In connection with such numerous expenses, the former president is forced to supplement ZUS benefits. His additional source of income are various types of lectures, which he conducts, traveling not only in Poland, but also in other countries of the world. “I’m doing this to make some money, because I don’t have any.” I don’t care about money, I didn’t care at all, but somehow it was enough for me, and now it’s not enough for me, so I have to make extra money, said Lech Wałęsa.
