We know where the largest outdoor cinema in Poland will be located. Cinema fans can now rub their hands!

Holidays are approaching fast, and the largest outdoor cinema in Poland will be launched soon! Located in the Palace of Culture and Science, Kinoteka invites residents and all visitors to the capital for 46 open-air film screenings. The repertoire is extremely rich and has been divided into several sections. We will find there both the latest movie hits (“John Wick 4”, “Wieloryb”, “Triangle”), famous titles from years ago (“Seksmisja”, “Laleczka Chucky”), as well as ambitious festival cinema (“Film balcony”, “Simona”).

The inaugural screening of “The Sunset Cinema” will take place on Sunday, May 21 at 21:30, during which the film “Lombard” will be screened, which won the Grand Prix in last year’s Main Competition of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival. The production tells the story of employees of the largest pawnshop in Poland who try to save their business while supporting the local community in the post-industrial district of Bytom.

The largest open-air cinema in Poland will be located near the Palace of Culture

The next screenings will start on May 30 and will take place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 21:30 until September 9. The repertoire has been divided into several sections, such as “Best movies of the season”, “Thursday cinema go”, and “Cult classics”. In addition, films that we could see at the largest film festivals in Poland, such as: Millennium Docs Against Gravity, SPLAT!FilmFest, LGBT+ Film Festival, or HER Docs Film Festival, will be screened. Other special shows are also planned.

According to the organizers, the films will be shown on the largest screen that has been erected during an open-air cinema in Poland. In addition, all productions will be shown in the original language version with Polish subtitles, and in the event of unfavorable weather, all screenings will be shown in the auditorium. For those who are hungry, there will be “palace casseroles” and participation in all screenings is free of charge.

It can be safely said that it is a real treat for the inhabitants of Warsaw, but also for tourists who visit the capital in large numbers during the holidays, especially around the Palace of Culture and Science. The curators of the event are Karolina Fornal, Michał Chabiera and Maria Majchrzak, and in the press release they inform what guided them in the selection of titles:

The program includes both ambitious middle-of-the-road cinema, for which Kinoteka’s repertoire is known, and the greatest hits of the festivals. From hundreds of films shown by us during the year, we have selected those that, thanks to their unusual form and means of expression, will encourage viewers to reflect and long discussions, but also provide entertainment and emotion.
