Nasturtium – when to sow? It is better not to miss this date
Nasturtiums are found in their natural habitat in dry thickets and mountains. Some species are grown as an ornament. When to sow to enjoy the view of beautiful flowers this season? You can successfully plant it in a pot, but pay attention to the right timing. It turns out that nasturtium seeds should be sown in April or May with an interval of about 20 cm. Few people know that the plant secretes natural substances that attract aphids, which in turn feed on aphid larvae. For this reason, it is a good idea to place them in the garden near vegetable patches.
How to care for nasturtiums? The flower does not have many requirements
Nasturtium is not very demanding when it comes to soil – in many cases a standard flower mix will do. The place where it is to grow should be sunny or slightly shaded, thanks to which flowering will take place throughout the summer.
The plant can require a lot of water in the summer, so it is worth watering it even twice a day on the balcony – provided that it develops in sunlight. Otherwise, you can supply it with slightly less liquid. Also, be careful not to overflow the flower. Unfortunately, nasturtium is not winter hardy, and in our climatic conditions it will bloom only for one season. However, if sown directly into the soil, it may surprise you with the survival of the seeds and germination in the next spring.
