“I lost, but I won the driving race”: this is how Maite Delgado recalls her participation in Miss Venezuela 37 years ago

Although she was previously known as a television host or entertainer, the 56-year-old today was a former beauty queen who nearly won the Miss Venezuela crown in 1986.

During an interview with Telemundo’s ‘La Mesa Caliente’, the Venezuelan revealed her experience as a contestant in her country’s top pageant and the opportunities she received afterwards.

“This week we happen to be celebrating 37 years of competition,” said Maite, who also noted that this was a very competitive year because she had strong competitors like Catherine Fulop.

On that occasion, the winner of the contest for Miss Venezuela was the famous Bárbara Palacios, while the Caracas woman was the third finalist and took home the title of Miss International Tourism.

Life after the competition

“By losing, I gained a lot because I really won what was in my way, which is to make a career in the world of driving,” said Maite Delgado.
