Jerzy Cnota was born on October 17, 1942 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. He grew up in a family where his father ruled with an iron fist. “Father was ruthless. I got a lot of lashes from him. He beat me every day – after years in “Super Express”. As he himself emphasized, he grew up “among bums, chachars, alcoholics”. However, he managed to break free. He graduated high school, graduated from college. However, he did not think about acting. Colleagues thought he would choose a football career, but Cnota decided to study Russian philology. He even managed to open a doctoral dissertation, for several years he taught at a school in Myślenice. However, his academic career was interrupted by acting.

“I didn’t want to be an actor, really, it was a complete accident. A friend who played in a play in the student theater 38 asked me to replace him. “I have to go to a funeral and you’re a jolly boy. You’ll be fine.” And I played – in one of the interviews. In 1969, he made his big screen debut in Kazimierz Kutz’s Salt of the Black Earth. In later years, Jerzy Cnota performed mainly in episodic and supporting roles. He appeared in such productions as “What will you do if you catch me”, “Miś”, “Dom” or “Ogniem i Mieczem”. In the last years of his life, he appeared in the series. Although he never played the main role, he successfully developed his acting career for many years. As he emphasized in interviews, his only regret was that he was unable to start a family. He was discouraged from looking for a partner for good by heartbreak. “I’m not married.” I didn’t have time… Okay, I tried on twice, but the ladies fucked me without soap. The first one made me look like a baby. She wasn’t born yet, and her family already told me to get married – he recalled in an interview with . He was sobered up only by his colleagues, thanks to whom he realized that children are not born after five months of a relationship. The second candidate for a wife was a “talented actress”, but her alcohol addiction turned out to be an obstacle. Jerzy Cnota spent his last years in Chorzów. – I never checked out of Silesia – he admitted. He died on November 10, 2016.
