The murder of a TVP employee shocked Poland. The daughter dismembered her mother’s body because she read her diary

On February 19, 1980, Danuta Orzechowska did not appear in the TVP building. Colleagues were worried about the absence of the editor, because she paid a lot of attention to her duties and never behaved in such a way. The next day, two men working at the lake fished a pot with a woman’s head out of the water.

The 41-year-old woman was living with her 18-year-old daughter, Katarzyna, who was called by co-workers. The girl replied that she had no idea what happened to her mother and informed her father about the matter. Danuta’s ex-husband, Jerzy, decided to report to the police. The next day, two workers working at Jeziorek Czerniakowskie found a pot in the water with a woman’s head inside. They notified the militiamen, who quickly said that part of the body had been chopped off with an ax or cleaver and belonged to the missing Danuta Orzechowska. The question was, where is the rest of the woman’s body? The militiamen suspected the woman’s ex-husband of the crime, but they did not find any strong evidence for him and he was quickly removed from the list of suspects.

She killed her mother because she read her diary. She chopped off the head and dismembered the body

Four days after the woman’s head was found in the pot, a suitcase with a dismembered female body and a handbag with dismembered legs and a bouquet of flowers were found at the Central Station. It turned out that the body parts belonged to Danuta Orzechowska. The militiamen assumed that they were looking for a serial killer and decided to publicize the case on television. After the broadcast of the program, the victim’s neighbor, Irena Podlaska, reported that she had seen Danuta’s daughter carrying a suitcase from the apartment. A search of the apartment was carried out, where the militiamen found incompetently washed blood stains, a missing pot and an axe.

18-year-old Katarzyna pleaded guilty. She said she hit her mother on the forehead with an ax, but the woman was still alive, so the daughter hit her again. She dismembered her mother’s body and put it in a pot, suitcase, and travel bag. She put flowers inside as a symbol of farewell. She justified the crime by the fact that her mother was insensitive, read her diary and interfered in intimate matters. On September 25, 1980, the court issued a sentence of 8 years imprisonment. The girl was said to be insane at the time of the commission. Katarzyna Orzechowska left the prison after five years and moved out of Warsaw. She started a family and had a child.
