It has barely started, and already a blow for TVP. Rainbow flag at the very beginning of Eurovision

The grand final of Eurovision 2023 provided the viewers with a lot of emotions. The stage did not lack energetic performances, but also emotions. This is another year in which the organizers of the competition prove that there is room for everyone on the Eurovision stage.

The final started with the traditional parade of flags. Then representatives of all countries participating in the competition appear on the stage, proudly presenting their national colors. The Italian representative decided to take two flags with him.

The LGBT flag on the Eurovision stage. The Italian representative supported minorities

Marco Mengoni, who competed in Eurovision with the song “Due Vite”, entered the stage proudly with the flag of Italy and LGBTQ+. The artist, wanting to support minorities, chose the so-called “Progress Pride Flag” created in 2018 by Daniel Quasar. In addition to the traditional six colors, the flag includes additional elements to support transgender, non-binary and black people.

Eurovision 2023, as every year, is broadcast on TVP, which has the exclusive right to present the performances. Television, to put it mildly, has a programming line less open to minorities than an international competition and focuses on nurturing traditional values. Therefore, moments such as the presentation of the LGBT flag by an Italian can be quite inconvenient for TVP.

Anyway, probably many fans of the international competition remember the TVP broadcast from the concert Light for Europe, which was organized instead of the canceled Eurovision in 2020. At that time, every time the transgender Nikkie de Jager appeared on the stage, TVP broadcast commercials. It is worth recalling that public television should not interrupt programs with commercials. No wonder then that there were suspicions of censorship.
