She is the favorite of this year’s Eurovision. They accuse her of stealing a song from a Ukrainian artist

Loreen is a definite favorite of this year’s Eurovision, but comments on the web may surprise her. Just before the final of the competition, there were discussions in which listeners accused the Swede of plagiarism. The song “Tattoo” sounds similar to a song by an artist from Ukraine.

We will see 26 countries in the final. We already know some of the performances from the semi-finals, additionally, in the final stage of the competition, the Great Five, which had a guaranteed place in the final, and Ukraine – last year’s winner, will perform their songs. Fans of the competition have been discussing who has the best chance of winning for weeks.

The network shows a clear interest in the representative of Finland. Käärijä warmed up the audience during the first semi-final of Eurovision 2023 with the song “Cha Cha Cha”. However, bookmakers’ quotes are unambiguous. According to the statistics, the representative of Sweden – Loreen with the song “Tattoo” has the best chance of winning. Interestingly, the artist already won the competition once in 2012, when she performed the song “Euphoria” on stage in Azerbaijan.

Loreen plagiarized? Her song resembles a song by a Ukrainian singer

Loreen, both during the performance 11 years ago and this year’s competition, focuses on music. When she performs on stage, she is not surrounded by a rich stage design, a team of dancers, nor does she wear a particularly fancy outfit that could overshadow her voice. Even more surprising is the fact that listeners noticed that the song “Tattoo” sounds disturbingly similar to another song released earlier.

The suggestion that Loreen could have plagiarized was shared on his TikTok by, among others, the creator of I kirill you, who compared the Swedish hit and the 2005 song “V plenu” by an artist using the pseudonym Mika Newton. Admittedly, the songs actually sound very similar.

Mika Newton, or rather Oksana Stefaniwna Hrycaj, is a Ukrainian pop singer and actress. The singer started singing at a very young age inspired by the work of Avril Lavigne. Interestingly, the artist represented her country at the 56th Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf, where she took fourth place.

The Internet reacted immediately to reports of plagiarism. Even a parody of the song Loreen by Russian youtuber Ramin has already appeared on the web. The creator recorded a brand new clip to the well-known melody, in which Newton, dressed as Loreen, sings against the background of the clip. Ramin also wrote his own lyrics in which he empathizes with the Swedish singer and declares that she really wrote the song herself and had no idea that “V plenu” existed.

It is worth noting here that accusations of plagiarism in the case of songs submitted for Eurovision appear almost every year. Not so long ago, the network discussed the song “Solo” of the Polish representative in a similar vein. Blanka’s song seemed to listeners to be similar to “Up” by the Romanian singer INNA.
