When is 2023? The date of the ceremony, which always falls on a Thursday, depends on the date set. In the Catholic Church, this feast is always ordered 60 days after the Resurrection of the Lord. It can fall between May 21 and June 24. In 2023, it will have to wait until the second week of June – Corpus Christi will be on June 8. In Poland, of course, it is a day off from work, which can be enjoyed not only by religious people.

What is worth knowing about God’s Body? When does it fall out and why? Nowadays, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is most often associated with colorful processions heading to the four altars. At each of them, the Gospels are read and prayers are recited. The number ”four” is not accidental here – it refers to the four corners of the world and the four evangelists: Mark, Matthew, John and Luke. The very idea of Corpus Christi is related to the desire to honor and adore Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
Where did Christmas come from? The tradition dates back to the Middle Ages, it was born in Leodium in today’s Belgium in 1246. It became valid in the entire Catholic Church later, in 1317. It was introduced in Poland three years later. In the following centuries, the celebration of Corpus Christi became strongly connected with Polish religiosity. During the partitions, it was also seen as an opportunity to manifest national affiliation. This issue was similar in the times of the People’s Republic of Poland – then the state authorities tried to ban processions through the streets of Polish cities.
When is Corpus Christi in 2023 and what traditions are associated with it?
We already know when Corpus Christi falls in 2023. On June 8, there will be a ceremony with not only religious significance, but also interesting from the perspective of the desire to learn about Polish culture. The processions are accompanied by the spilling of flowers by communion children, the sound of bells and the smell of incense. Often it is also an opportunity to show the color of the local community – processions are often accompanied by firefighters or people dressed in regional folk costumes. The altars themselves are decorated according to local customs. In some parishes they are located around the temple, while in others processions of the faithful go through the streets of towns and villages.

Above all, however, we gain a chance to have another long weekend in our own calendar. It is enough to take a day off on Friday, June 9, and we already have four free days at our disposal. A repeat of the May long weekend? With a little effort, this can be a viable option. It is worth betting on it all the more that the weather may turn out to be more kind than the one in May.
