As Ukraine cannot host the final in 2023, this one was hosted in the UK. The BBC took the brunt of the competition, but the TV reporters made a pretty bad mistake. In one of the materials, they broadcast an interview with a fan of Eurovision – the problem is that they were convinced that they were talking to a representative of Norway, and so they signed the fan of the event.
Eurovision 2023. Funny BBC slip-up
This year Finland is represented by an artist known as Käärijä. In the competition he started with a very catchy, rather club-like song “Cha cha cha”. The chorus is easy to sing with him, and the artist stands out in that he performs on stage in black latex pants and instead of a shirt or jacket he has only puffy, neon green sleeves. In the same outfit, one of the fans who has a similar complexion, hairstyle and beard appeared at the concert.
In a fragment of the BBC’s footage posted online, the journalist can be heard announcing the staunch Eurovision fan as Finland’s musical envoy. The stage name of the artist also appeared on the strip. The lover of the competition himself spoke flatteringly about the organizers of this year’s edition:
It’s amazing, compared to other countries I’ve been to, everything is much better organized. You can walk everywhere, everyone is very friendly and everything is so easy here.
As reported by the portal nme.com, the man who was mistaken for the Finnish musician comes from Australia and was accosted by journalists in the street. An excerpt from their conversation was broadcast on BBC’s North West Tonight. The slip-up was quickly caught and is the source of numerous jokes on the web: “I watched BBC reporters chase this absolutely random man to do this interview”, “It looks like a fake finalist ordered from a Chinese site”, “It will be a beautiful part of Eurovision history” – users comment
Let’s add that Käärijä got to the finals, so the chance for another interview with the BBC is real – who knows, maybe this time the journalists will accost the right person.
