The second semi-final of Eurovision 2023. We know the results

This year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest was attended by representatives of 37 countries, of which only the representatives of the “Big Five” countries (Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Great Britain) are guaranteed to participate in the final. The others have to fight for promotion and in 2023, for the first time in the history of Eurovision, only the votes of viewers from around the world decide who will go on. After all 16 performances of the second semi-final and the points tallying up, the following countries advanced:

Albania, Cyprus, Estonia, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Poland (!), Australia, Armenia and Slovenia.

That evening, viewers from all 16 countries participating in the semi-finals were able to vote, and in addition, residents of the three countries that have guaranteed places in the final – this time it was Spain, Ukraine and Great Britain. stood out from other proposals – her song was definitely more summer than Eurovision, but also cheerful, entertaining and simply pleasant. As you can see, it worked. It was also evident that the singer applied herself and worked hard on her performance. Already during the rehearsals in Liverpool it was felt that she was doing much better than during the national pre-selections. Polish viewers appreciated it, and her piece clearly also convinced the international audience. Advancing to the finals was heralded by the fact that the song “Solo” was the fifth most played song on Spotify from this year’s edition of the competition. Bookmakers estimate that Poland should be somewhere in the middle of the pack in the final.

How to vote in Eurovision 2023?

In 2023, the votes of the audience count more than ever before – a new rule has been introduced that allows contest lovers from all over the world to vote, not just the countries participating in the concerts. Eurovision viewers can vote for their favorites in several ways. First of all, the organizer encourages you to download the official competition application (available for Android and iOS devices), which includes the voting option. In addition, it will be traditionally possible to cast votes by phone or via text messages sent to the number provided by the national broadcaster of the contest. In Poland it is 73555. Another option is to use the website – this option is especially recommended for people who live in countries that do not participate in Eurovision.

After counting the votes, the 10 most popular songs in a given country will receive from 1 to 8 points depending on the result. The best will be able to get 10 or 12 points. Due to the new provision opening the voting to the international audience, in addition to votes from Europe and Australia, a separate pool of points “from the rest of the world” will also be taken into account – here the mechanism works the same – we read on the Eurovision website.

The audience from each country in total can award a total of 58 points. Voting for the final will start after the last performer has sung and will last approximately 40 minutes. In addition to votes from viewers from Europe and the rest of the world, the results will also be decided by points from professional jurors – they will award them on the basis of a costume rehearsal, which will take place on Friday, May 12. Their verdicts will be presented during the live broadcast by presenters from all participating countries – the results will be displayed on a special board. The song with the most points in total wins.

As we read in the official announcement, the site downloads information about the location of the computer we use – in this way the organizer makes sure that viewers will not be able to vote for representatives from their country. This is to ensure equal opportunities for all participants. In addition, for each vote cast, the viewers will have to pay a micropayment – the money collected in this way will be spent on the organization of the next edition of the competition. One person can cast a maximum of 20 votes.
