It’s the latest trend on social media, bringing a lot of humor to name definitions.
Social media users are flocking to the site Urban Dictionary, a dictionary of English slang and phrases, to look up their names. Some of the results are less than pleasant, but very hilarious.
It is the latest trend in social networks, especially on Instagram and Twitter. It’s not as dangerous as scaling milk crates, as seen in a challenge, but it brings a lot of humor to the definitions of names, politics, and video games.
Urban Dictionary was founded in 1999 by Aaron Peckham as an urban collaborative dictionary (hence its name), of Anglo-Saxon slang words. Over the past two decades, the site has grown to include definitions for just about anything.
A quick search for McDonald’s O Game of Thrones displays user-submitted definitions that are more fun than real. Some terms have incorrect grammar or spelling and include language NSFW, slang from the internet what does it mean not safe for work; basically indicates that there is sexually explicit content or language with insults that is not appropriate to see according to the time or place where one is connected.
According to a post by USA TodayDefinitions can be submitted by anyone with an email address, and most are not the actual meaning of the terms you are referring to, but rather the user’s experience or perspective. For instance, Game of Thrones is defined as a program of HBO action, fantasy and sex, full of people fighting for a pointy chair, where you will hate Joffrey and love Tyrion, the short guy.
As social media users are discovering, names have equally “scientific” definitions in Urban Dictionary. For example, user Matt Rose found that Matthew means “gift from god, normally a ‘matthew’ is a sweet and loving boy, he will be very intelligent and good at sports. Matthews of this type usually only loves one person, and always will, until he dies. He can get very emotional and have a hard time expressing his feelings, he loves music ”.
