Although some people consider the homeless as “outcasts”, “chugs” or “loafers” who should not have a place in society, there are also those who selflessly help them. They are volunteers from the “Ambulance from the Heart”, which travels the streets of Warsaw and helps all those who need help. Recently, they have a new ambulance, which would not have been possible to buy if it had not been for the help of donors, including readers of Gazeta.pl and the website’s journalists Eliza Dolecka, who, when he undertakes a task, will achieve his goal even if all the bridges fall down. She succeeded. Eliza, together with our video team, went on patrol to see what the work of rescuers from “Ambulance from the Heart” looks like in practice. You can see the full report.
Homeless paramedic. “Homeless people don’t stink because they want to stink”
Often when we pass by people, we plug our nose or hold our breath because these people smell bad. Lifeguard Rafal Muszczynko explains to us why this happens and adds that it is not always their choice.
Just because someone smells, it doesn’t mean they want to smell, it just means that they have no place to wash themselves. There are only a few bathhouses in Warsaw and they are not easily accessible and you really need to know where, how and when to know which bathhouse is open. It is not that if Mr. Janusz hit the street, he would manage and be fragrant, because he would not find these baths either. (…) These people sometimes smell bad because they have no place to use the toilet (…).

Rescuer openly about the fact that each of us can end up on the street. “We are three installments away from it”
– “Me homeless? Impossible” – each of us could think. After all, we work or study every day just so as not to end up on the street. However, situations in life are different and you need to be prepared for different scenarios. from “Ambulance from the Heart” says even more: – “Each of us is three installments away from homelessness”
We had among the homeless people who were beaten up by young people who were bored. (…) “Let’s beat the bum”. No, it doesn’t help society, quite the opposite. What’s more, maybe in a few years, young man, it will be that while working at your fantastic job, you will lose this job. You are three installments away from homelessness, most of us are three installments away from homelessness and you may share its fate. Then you wouldn’t want to be kicked, beaten, chased away and told that you stink.
– RafaĆ Muszczynko tells us.
