Far from looking for virtuosity or innovation, the coastal group General Villamil (@elgeneralvillamil) brought in his most recent studio production entitled Spicy Wednesday. It was published last Friday.

Juanjo: Jazz The Roots celebrate jazz with the release of their new album ‘Cordillera’

Available on all digital distribution platforms, this EP contains six songs and lasts about twenty-four minutes, it also has editions in physical format: on CD and cassette. This is something that the band has characterized by leading David Royas (voice, guitar) throughout his career, that fixation for analog and vintage, undoubtedly an essential part of their identity. More than for economic reasons, it is a fact to make music tangible and share it not only through social networks or stream, but also with these limited editions that give it a special added value. Anyone can listen to the music; not everyone can have it.

When it comes to the sound, there’s a conceptual idea that runs through all of the songs: van twenty sentences until Gel, each theme has melodies that seem to be composed with the aim of being ambient. Something that would not be unreasonable since El General Villamil has been associated with sports such as on several occasions surfing or the skateboardingand in these activities music with the mentioned qualities is usually heard.

Neat keyboards and guitars, discreet drums and solid basses with solid figures is all we hear Spicy Wednesday, as well as choruses that are sure to stick easily in listeners’ memories. There are not many words to describe a work that simply deserves to be heard, on the beach, at home or on any journey. This EP is an impeccable soundtrack.

In art, it is not always necessary to have masterful skills to create something that sticks on people’s retinas or ears. What must be inevitable are those desires to transcend and express themselves without expecting anything in return. (OR)
