From March 1, new, higher limits of amounts that can be added to old-age and disability pensions apply. This means that seniors can earn more without the risk of their benefit being reduced or suspended. What is worth knowing?

How much can you earn towards your pension? The new limits apply from March 1
Seniors who receive , but have not reached the general retirement age, can safely earn 70 percent the average monthly salary, i.e. from March 1, it is PLN 4,713.50 grosso. This means that if they show income less than or equal to this amount, they will not be reduced or suspended. In case when earn more than PLN 4,713.50 gross, but less than PLN 8,753.60 (i.e. 130 percent of the average monthly salary), their pension will be reduced by the amount exceeded. However, it is worth knowing that it cannot be higher than the so-called maximum reduction amount. According to them, these are:
- PLN 794.35 in the case of old-age and disability pensions awarded due to total incapacity for work,
- PLN 595.80 in the case of pensions due to partial incapacity for work,
- PLN 675.24 in the case of family pensions in which one person is entitled.
Earnings higher than PLN 8,754.60 result in the suspension of the payment of the benefit. It is worth remembering that from January 2022, the above rules also apply to the social pension (earlier, income exceeding 70% of the average monthly salary meant suspension of the pension). Limits change every three months, which means that we will know the next ones in June.

Who does not have to worry about restrictions on earning extra money in the case of a pension received earlier? Above all seniors who receive a survivor’s pension when it is more favorable in terms of the old-age pensionwhich they are entitled to after reaching the general retirement age (60 years for women, 65 years for men). In addition, they can earn money without any restrictions seniors receiving a pension as war invalids and military invalids when their incapacity for work concerns military service. It is worth knowing that this also applies to persons who receive a family pension on this account.

Please note that if you have not reached the statutory age, are receiving a pension and earning extra money, you must notify the Social Insurance Institution of the income you have achieved in a given year and the settlement system you have chosen. It can be monthly or annually. If the facility is not notified, seniors will be forced to return the unduly collected benefit.
