The Pamplona director Ainara Vera has been awarded this Saturday with the Genciana de Oro, the highest award of the 71st Trento Film Festival, for his film “Polaris”, according to sources from the Bilbao Mendi Film Festival. The jury has decided to reward Vera’s work for “the powerful use of cinematographic language when empathetically telling the story of two women who trace the path of their own destiny.”
The tape tells the story of two women, Hayat and Leila. Hayat is an experienced sailor used to sailing in the Arctic, sailing away from the rest of humanity and her traumatic childhood in France. But when her younger sister, Leila, gives birth to a daughter, Inaya, the promise of a new beginning appears on the horizon. The worlds and lives of the two sisters are turned upside down as they both embark on a deeply personal journey, guided by the North Star, to reverse the fate of their family.
“Without places and people capable of paying attention and be amazed by the painful beauty of this lifemaking movies would be a meaningless activity”, Vera thanked, when the news of her award was known.
