May 6th will see the historic coronation of King Charles III as the new monarch of England, and one of the controversies surrounding this event is that Camilla will also be crowned Queen Consort.
After becoming persona non grata in the royal family, the 75-year-old will wear the crown of Mary of Teck, albeit with a few notable alterations to replace the fearsome Koh-i-Noor diamond.
The precious stone is part of the other 2,200 diamonds that the dress has, since Queen Mary had it made for the coronation of her husband, King George V, in 1911.

The diamond that Camilla refused to wear and her dark past
The gem is unique in its kind, shaped like a small egg and adorning the front of the crown which is usually displayed in the Tower of London, besides, its distinctive name means “Mountain of Light” in Persian.

The 105.6-carat diamond is said to carry a curse indicating that whoever owns it “will rule the world, but will also know all its misfortunes. Only God or a woman can take it with impunity.”

The gem is currently part of the British crown, since the British conquered India. But before the conquest, all those who possessed the gem were said to have died in a very violent manner. pic.twitter.com/UuSVVFsjbh

This comes from the Kollur mine in India and was said to have been kept in a temple before it was stolen and belonged to Hindu, Mughal, Persian and Afghan nobles, according to La Vanguardia.
Several South Asian rulers are said to have died tragically from the stone. It eventually reached the Sikh kingdom and was handed over to Queen Victoria of England in 1877 by its 10-year-old emperor Duleep Singh.

A reminder of the colonial past
Camila’s crown will not carry the controversial 105-carat Koh-i-Noor diamond, a stone claimed by India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. It was displayed at the Queen’s funeral, and Indians were angry because they saw it as a symbol of British colonialism. #powerdressing #Coronation pic.twitter.com/pgzxdm8NJ1

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told The Telegraph newspaper that wearing the Koh-i-Noor diamond would only bring back “painful memories of the colonial past”.
As a result, Camilla avoided the conflict and swapped the gem for the heart-shaped Cullinan V worn by Queen Elizabeth II as a brooch, Who magazine reported.
Also returned to the crown of Mary of Teck were the 94.4-carat pear-shaped Cullinan III and the 63.6-carat square Cullinan IV, diamonds that had been removed from the tiaras.
