Linda Lewis is dead. The career of the famous singer lasted over four decades. The artist died at the age of 72.

Her family announced the death of the singer. Linda’s sister Dee Lewis Clay said goodbye to the singer on social media. She described the sad event as a “heartbreaking” experience, but noted that her “beloved, beautiful sister” passed away peacefully in her own home.

The British artist enjoyed immense popularity in the 1970s. The industry envied her five-octave voice and big hits such as the Merry Clayton cover “It’s in His Kiss”, which reached the top ten of the local charts and hit the prestigious BillboardHot100 list. The work remains alive to this day also thanks to subsequent interpretations of the composition. In 1990, the song became an international hit thanks to Cher.

Among the hits performed solo by Lewis, you can also mention “Rock-A-Doodle-Doo” or “Baby, I’m Yours”, but the artist has also performed with the world’s biggest stars. She sang backing vocals with Cat Stevens, Jamiroquai, David Bowie and Rod Stewart. Over the course of her career, she recorded ten studio albums, and in the early 2000s Warner Music released a special collection featuring her work from the 1970s.

The artist said goodbye to other representatives of the music industry, whom she inspired with her work. Midge Ure of Ultravox admitted he was in love with Linda Lewis, The Waterboys frontman Mike Scott wrote on social media that the artist was “fantastic” and the Sex Pistols bassist remarked that whenever he met Lewis, she was cute.
