The role of Dominik in the production of Jan Komasa “Suicide Room” brought Jakub Gierszał great and critical acclaim. The film about 18-year-old Dominik was awarded many statuettes. He didn’t want to play the role of a neurotic teenager again. In an interview, he explained his decision:
I was very identified with this role and I found out what such identification resulted in. For example, it happened that a girl in crisis gave an ultimatum that she would get out of confinement if she talked to me. I couldn’t take that responsibility. And I was afraid that I would fall into a drawer, and I wanted to test different things.
He got involved in such films as: “Yuma”, “Long”, “Córki dancingu”, “Chyłka”, “Spanish”, “Consent”, “Spoor”, and in 2017 he was again nominated for the Eagle for the best leading male role in Łukasz Palkowski’s The Best. Gierszał also played in several foreign productions, among others In: the German-language “Dark World”, “The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs”, also the American “Dracula: History Untold”. After the premiere of the last of them, in an interview with Anna Tatarska, according to the website, he said:
It was an interesting experience for me to see such a seventy-million-dollar plan – and they still complained about having a small budget. Working on such a professionally prepared, big film, even if it’s just an episode, is always an adventure, fun. But I’d be wrong if I claimed that’s the only reason. It is known that in this industry talent is not enough, you have to be lucky, make contacts, meet people.
