Hollywood, the giant entertainment industry, has been paralyzed since Tuesday due to the strike of thousands of screenwriters. According to a statement from their union, the WGA, the strike comes after talks by the writers with studios and streaming platforms. wages and working conditions end without agreement.
“We have not reached an agreement with the studios and the platforms. We will strike after the contract expires at midnight,” the WGA wrote on Monday. Being one of the main demands of this group higher wages and a larger share of the profits generated by the streaming boom.
The decision was made after six weeks of negotiations with @Netflix, @Amazon, @Manzana, @Disney, @wbd, @NBCUniversal, @Paramountplus And @Sony under the umbrella of the AMPTP.

The screenwriters allude to the fact that their salaries are stagnant or devalued due to inflation, while their employers take advantage and increase the salaries of their executives. They point that out never before have so many screenwriters worked for the minimum wage set by the unions and they denounce that the television channels are hiring fewer and fewer people to write increasingly shorter series.
However, the studio’s responses to the requests were “totally insufficients, given the existential crisis screenwriters face,” the WGA said.

The Alliance of Film and Television Producerswhich stands for studies like disney, CBS, Amazon, sony, Warner Bros. Discovery, nbc And Netflix, argues that it must cut costs due to economic pressures. Its representatives claimed to have submitted a “comprehensive proposal” that included an increase in the screenwriters’ compensation, but said they would not improve this offer given the size of the union’s other requests.
According to the statement, the WGA’s demands that studios hire a certain number of writers “for a certain period of time, whether necessary or not” are one of the main points of disagreement.
As long as there is no agreement, Writers’ strike could slow production of TV series and movies in Hollywood. Even some “late-night shows” would be suspended immediately.
Seth Meyers, host of his show “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” wrote about “Saturday Night Live” and supports the union’s request. “I firmly believe that what the writers ask is not unreasonableand as a proud member of the guild, I am very grateful that there is an organization that stands up for the interests of writers,” he said during a broadcast.
