When in the mid-1960s he founded his cabaret with the graceful name of Dudek, he was already a great star. He went down in history as one of the most colorful figures in the post-war artistic milieu, although he described himself as “an exceptionally sad man”.
He had talent in his genes. The role in Munk’s “Eroica” brought him fame
Edward Dziewoński got talent in his genes. His father Janusz Dziewoński was one of the most respected pre-war Poland. He was educated under the guidance of teachers from the National Institute of Theater Arts in Warsaw, which he successfully completed, receiving the title of . Shortly after graduating, World War II broke out, which is why he made his debut only in 1945 on the stage of the Syrena Theater in Łódź.
A year later, he stood in front of the camera for the first time in the film “Forbidden Songs”. In total, he created 31 acting creations on the screen, but it was the role of Dzidziuś Górkiewicz in Andrzej Munk’s “Eroica” that brought him real fame and recognition. – I mean, he didn’t play a certain character the way the author wanted him to … F**k he had an author. He wished the author to take into account only his personality, and not what he proposes in the text, in the image of the role. Hence his characteristic distance — Gustaw Holoubek about him.
Later, he worked at the Contemporary Theater in Warsaw, where he not only acted, but also realized himself as a director. He felt best. He performed, among others z , but in 1965 he decided to start his own formation, Dudek, which operated successfully for a decade. His programs were timeless, humorous, and the texts from them were permanently recorded in colloquial speech. “It was a continuation of the Qui Pro Quo cabaret. I knew that I was doing a good cabaret that would continue the good old days, he said many years later in an interview for Polish Radio.
He got married three times. His last wife was 20 years younger than him
There was always a circle of women around Edward Dziewoński. However, when one of the ladies did not respond to his advances, he used to say rakishly, “No, I have Rita Hayworth.” He also often picked up actresses he wanted to hire for his plays. He had an unusual method for this, which, however, turned out to be very effective. “I saw you in the last play.” You were very bad. Can you come to my place? he asked.
Although he claimed that “short friendship is better than long love”, he did not refuse to enter into deeper relationships with women. Dziewoński was married three times, but the first two relationships did not stand the test of time. It was only with Irena Wilczyńska, 20 years his junior, that he finally found peace and stability. “My mother-in-law is only four years older than me,” he would laugh.
“Being the wife of such a person is a kind of mission. Due to his profession, my husband sometimes had different moods and moods, but I am happy that I was married to Dudek – Wilczyńska confessed to “Gazeta Wyborcza”. Edward Dziewoński died on August 17, 2002 at the age of 85.
