The Basque theater wins four Max awards for ‘Yerma’, ‘Eta orain zer?’, ‘Sexberdinak’ and ‘Supernormales’

Basque theater has garnered four prizes at the Max awards gala for the performing arts, which the Spanish General Society of Authors and Publishers delivered this Monday in Cádiz. Maria Goiricelaya Buron he has won the award for the best adaptation of a theatrical or choreographic work for ‘Yerma’; Pascal Gaigne (Kukai), best musical composition for stage show for ‘Eta orain zer?’;Tanttaka Theater, best production work for ‘Sexberdinak’; and Inaki RikarteBest Stage Direction for ‘Supernormales’.
The Bilbao company Wandering Dramacreated by Ane Pikaza and Maria Goiricelayawas nominated for five Max Awards for her works ‘Yerma’, adaptation of the work of Federico García Lorcaand ‘Altsasu‘, a work written based on the events that occurred in 2016 in the Koxka bar with the aim of “healing wounds, talking about forgiveness, reconciliation and coexistence”. Finally, only the first of the works has been awarded.
For its part, the dance company Kukai She maintains her idyll with the Max family and has once again been awarded with her show ‘Eta orain zer?’, best musical composition for a stage show. She was also nominated for best lighting design (David Bernués), but she hasn’t taken that award.
Also nominated were the play ‘Zuhaitzak landatzen zituen gizona’ by the Gorakada company, for best show for children, youth or families; Marta Eguileor, for Best New Author for ‘Borderland’ and Ikerne Giménez for Best Stage Space Design for ‘El cuaderno de Pitágoras’. However, they have not been awarded.
For the rest, the XXVI edition of the Max Awards, awarded by the SGAE Foundation, has been one of the most distributed in history. Only two, of the 45 shows in contention, the dance ‘Rune’ and the theatrical ‘Cockroach with background landscape’have won two maximinos at the gala hosted by the Gran Teatro Falla in Cádiz.
The awards also include three special categories: Max of Honor to tricycle; Max of a social nature that recognizes the work of clownspital and, for the first time, the public’s applause has been summoned, which has fallen on the family show ‘The Little Prince’ de La Perla 29, created by composer Manu Guix and director Àngel Llácer, based on the story by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
