Rick Moranis entertained viewers on screens for years. He became famous as Barney from “The Flintstones”, and had many excellent roles on his account. After the death of his beloved wife, the actor decided to give up his career to take care of his children. Years later, he confessed that it was the only right choice he could have made.

Rick Moranis was one of Hollywood’s greats. He appeared in such productions as “Ghostbusters”, “Spaceballs”, “Calm down daddy” or “Awantura for inheritance”. Although many remember him as Barney Rubble from the film version of the fairy tale, the most important role in his career was the character of crazy Wayne Szalinski in a series of family films. The productions “Honey, I shrunk the kids”, “Honey, I increased the kid” or “Honey, we shrunk ourselves” brought him international fame and recognition.

Although on the screen Moranis amused viewers to tears, privately he experienced a tragedy. In 1991, his wife, Ann Belsky, died of breast cancer. he was left alone with two children, daughter Rachel and son Mitchell. Therefore, just after the premiere of the last film in the popular series, he announced that he was putting his career on hold. – I’m a single parent. I realized that I can’t combine raising children and a professional job that requires a lot of travel. I took a little break that turned into a long break, and then I found out I really didn’t miss it all – a few years later in an interview with USA Today. After disappearing from show business, Moranis took full-time care of children. In one of the interviews, he explained that he did not give up acting forever, but suspended his professional activity for some time. “I was and am the same person. I haven’t changed. My priority has changed,” he explained in one of the interviews.

Although Moranis stopped appearing on the screen and turned down many lucrative offers, he was still a dubbing man. He has lent his voice to many children’s productions. We can hear him in the fairy tale “Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and the island of lost toys” or in two parts of the series “Brother Bear”. In 2018, he also made a guest appearance on the screen, playing one of the characters in the series “The Goldbergs”.

Already in 2014, the actor admitted that he would love to return to the profession, but he feels that there is no place for him in the world of Hollywood productions. He emphasized that in acting it is important for him that each character has his element. That is why he repeatedly modified the lines entrusted to him in such a way that they were as funny as possible for the viewers. “I got to the point where I was just ‘acting’ because the directors decided what I had to say. It wasn’t for me anymore. I’m not really an actor, I’m a comedian. In 2020, Moranis signed a contract with Disney for a new film in the series “Honey, I shrunk the kids”, which brought him popularity years ago.
