“Before we met on set, I thought Joaquin Phoenix was probably the best actor in the world,” says director Ari Aster, who spent six months trying to get the Oscar-winner to star in his latest film, “Because I’m Afraid.” “Now I think he’s even better than I thought.” I’ve never had such a phenomenal experience working with an actor before.

The first time I didn’t know anything about him and just went on a journey with you. The second time I focused on its technical perfection. The film language you use is extremely original and unique. Such risk-taking is unheard of. There are not many filmmakers today who can do something like this and on such a level – praised the creator of the cult “Taxi Driver”. It is therefore hardly surprising that the Polish distributor assures that “Because he is afraid” is both “the scariest comedy and the funniest horror”.
