Almost 25 years ago, a film directed by Jerzy Hoffman hit the cinema screens. It immediately created a huge sensation among viewers and critics. It was one of the most expensive and largest undertakings in Polish cinema, many times awarded with prestigious awards. Now Audioteka decided to remind the listeners about the fate of the heroes.

On April 20, 2023, the premiere of the audiobook of the first part of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s Trilogy took place. Users of Audioteka have a chance to move back to the 17th-century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, where Jan Skrzetuski and Bohun’s struggle for the heart of the beautiful Helena Kurcewiczówna takes place against the backdrop of political events. It is a story in which love intertwines with hatred, and jealousy with lust for power and blood. The unique radio play, lasting as much as 20 hours, was created on the basis of a script created by Szymon Wróblewski. Krzysztof Kiczka was the director.
The cast of the adaptation has the biggest stars. The creators took care of every detail
The story of a love triangle and the war between the Republic of Poland and the Cossacks is told by as many as 80 of the greatest stars of Polish cinema. The role of Jan Skrzetuski was played by Michalina Łabacz as Helena Kurcewiczówna, the character of Bohun was created by Michał Żurawski, and Andrzej Grabowski was given the role of Zagłoba. Other roles also included: Danuta Stenka, Jarosław Boberek, Dariusz Chojnacki and Zbigniew Stryj. In turn, the voice of the narrator is spoken by Radosław Krzyżowski.
The radio drama is promoted, which was created for the production by the Pervival Schuttenbach team, responsible for, among others, for the music to the acclaimed third part of “The Witcher”. The artists also took care of the soundtrack that accompanies the entire adaptation. Heavy metal sounds combined with Slavic folklore and traditional instruments enhance the unique character and atmosphere of the new version of “Ogniem i Mieczem”.
