Pigeons, although harmless, are a nuisance for many apartment dwellers. These birds like to hang out on windowsills and balconies. It wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for the fact that these uninvited guests, on the occasion of their visits, soil window sills, railings and even the floor with their feces.
It is better not to allow the nest to be established
The short visits of pigeons are nothing compared to the situation when these birds make their nest on the balcony. The impurities that appear with it sometimes seriously impede or even prevent the use of the balcony. And when the eggs appear, and then the young ones – we cannot get rid of the nest not only for moral reasons, but also for legal reasons. According to the Nature Conservation Act of April 16, 2004 (Journal Journal of Laws 2009 No. 151, item 1220 as amended)for non-compliance with its provisions, i.e. destroying bird nests or moving them, is punishable by a fine or even imprisonment.
Pigeons are deterred by pungent odors
Pigeons do not like strong smells. This reluctance can be easily exploited by creating a homemade repeller. For this purpose, it is best to use a spray bottle (can be used for window cleaning liquid), which is filled with water and added to it, for example, powdered chilli or cayenne pepper. The mixture prepared in this way should be regularly sprayed on window sills and railings on balconies. Vinegar can be used in the same way. Pigeons also do not like the smell of mothballs, so you can put a container with mothballs on the balcony. To strengthen the effect of the repeller, it is worth tying an air-filled balloon or ribbons to the railing, which, moved by the wind, will scare away pigeons.
