The Guayaquil All Stars Orchestra is a group that brings together fourteen Ecuadorians who are passionate about salsa. Juan Carlos Boss Vergara He is the group’s director and composer of his only songs of his own authorship, declarations of his love for his hometown.

At the end of December 2022, the band released these songs: Rumbero from yesterday And guaiac heat. These songs have an old sound and taste, being influenced by the salsa brava that took place in Puerto Rico and New York a few decades ago.

With this, Vergara He wanted to pay tribute to the spirit of Guayaquil and highlight the way of being of the citizens: “We are very funny. What I like most about Guayaquil are the nicknames of the people, that creativity we have to invent something, the ability to be entrepreneurial: it’s raining and we can already see the street vendors. It’s that spark that we have. “

The sound quality of this work is comparable to the quality of orchestras worldwide. Vergara He is very proud of the work of each of the arrangers and instrumentalists who, full of energy and always looking for a party, contributed to the salsa genre songs. “It’s like an export sauce. We hope that this genre can be exported from here,” he says.

“guaiac heat says, “If I’m born again, I want it to be in Guayaquil.” It is from someone who is proud to be from Guayaquil, and even more so now that we are engulfed in situations that are strange and often tragic to us. What is expected of this number is that it is an escape figure for all of this that we are going through. Guayaquil doesn’t have to suffer more than it needs to. If we can elevate ourselves with music, with art, with ideas, and we can take this social weight off a little bit, that’s what we’re trying to do with this song,” he added.

For these songs he had the contribution of various musicians from the orchestra, such as Mauricio Milano with percussion, Victor Salas on trombone, Luis David Melo on trumpet; the arrangements and production were in charge Vergara; and mixing and mastering was done in New York by the multi-Grammy Award winner ignacio Nacho Windmillthe most recent along with ruben knives.

Rumbero from yesterday describes it as a production full of nostalgia as it has the participation by Lucho Larapianist who died at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and trumpeter Edwin Vera, who was also immortalized with his instrument solo in this song. “What better tribute to them, to their family and to the people who knew them who left their legacy and can be heard today. It’s a song that forces me to remember them. They were very good friends and I know they enjoy listening to each other,” says the director.

In May they will embark on a national tour, he mentions, to give all Ecuadorian salsa fans the chance to listen to these melodies. “So far we have been to the Teatro Centro de Arte. We have had the opportunity to perform concerts in the street, which I think is one of the most enjoyable experiences, because having 8,000 people dance in the street is really food for the soul, and especially with this music, which is extremely festive. , indicates.
