Hailing from Canada, Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo are known as the murderous couple “Barbie and Ken”. When they met in 1987, she was working as an assistant in a veterinary clinic and he was an accountant. They fell in love at first sight and together realized Paul’s brutal fantasies.
He was obsessed with virginity. His wife gave him her own sister
As a teenager, Paul found out that his mother’s partner, whom he treated as a father, was not his real parent. Then a change took place in him – from a nice boy who led a Boy Scout team, he became a brutal man, and it was satisfying to humiliate women. Karla knew about her husband’s tastes from the beginning. He was obsessed with the feminine and attached great importance to virginity. When he met Karla, the woman was having her first time, so she decided to give her husband a gift – her own sister. She stole sleeping pills from the animal clinic and gave them to her sister. The dose of sleeping pills turned out to be too high, as a result of which the girl died.
The crimes were recorded on camera. They fell in 1993
Karla helped her husband choose the next victims and recorded all of her husband’s crimes on camera. She did not oppose her husband for fear that he would want her. On June 15, 1991, Paul kidnapped fourteen-year-old Leslie Mahaffy. For the next 24 hours, he and his wife kept her at home, tortured and abused, videotaping everything. Leslie died and the couple hid the girl’s body in the basement. Later, they used a chainsaw to dismember the body and poured concrete blocks over it, which they then threw into Lake Gibson. The fragments of the body were quickly found by local fishermen.
The couple was caught in 1993 after DNA testing was carried out by the police. Initially, Karla admitted to the alleged acts, but then changed her testimony, told about the details of the crime and accused her husband of violence and abuse. Eventually, thanks to her cooperation with the police, she was sentenced to 12 years in prison. She left in 2005 and lives under an assumed name in the remote regions of Guadeloupe. Paul was sentenced to life imprisonment.
