Gray hair does not appear suddenly. Over the years, the production of melanin, which gives color to our skin, hair and body, weakens and gives our hair strands a more greyish tint. It is a visual indicator of the passage of time, and many women naturally try to hide it by coloring. Nowadays, however, more and more women are leaning towards a natural look. One of them is Amy Jowett, who, as a result of changes in her life, decided to treat herself to a bold metamorphosis.
She decided to shave her head after the breakup and grow her natural gray hair. “Now or never”
Mum of two, Amy Jowett from the UK, aged 37, made the decision to embrace her hair. After her divorce in 2010, she felt depressed and lacked self-confidence. As he reports:
I gained weight, was a single mother of two, and used my hair and tattoos as a way to hide behind it all.
In October 2020, when Amy broke up with her then-partner, she decided to go on a trip to get better. However, the results were not what she expected. So she decided to go one step further and shave her head.
I thought ‘okay, now or never’. I don’t want to spend any more money trying to fix it, I will shave it off and let my natural gray hair grow back and grow long.
The 39-year-old recalls feeling like someone had lifted a weight off her shoulders when she got rid of her hair. She believes that it was a form of therapy for her, thanks to which she gained strength after the breakup and the desire to start something new in her life. Two years after the radical and so-called In her new beginning, Jowett has also noticed that the condition of her hair is amazing and her confidence is surprisingly high. The British argues:
I will never dye my hair again. If anything, I’ll buy a wig. I absolutely love natural gray.
At the age of 14, she began to hide her first gray hair. Now, thanks to the natural shade, she feels that she “looks younger”
The 39-year-old began her adventure with dyeing when she was 14 years old. She dyed her brown hair, costing her around £300 a year and a lot of time in the hairdresser’s chair.
Like many women, I’ve dyed my hair over the years to cover the gray.
Over time, in addition to covering gray strands, she also began to experiment with other colors. Pink, purple, blonde and various shades of brown appeared on her head. Numerous colorings also contributed to the deterioration of the condition of the hair, with which Amy Jowett was less and less satisfied. When she dared to cut her hair in 2020, she was surprised by the results.
Contrary to her initial assumptions, when naturally gray hair began to appear on her head, her self-confidence increased. The woman admits that she now also receives many compliments regarding the condition of her hair. Worries about looking older with gray hair have also been forgotten. The 39-year-old admitted that the light strands on her face brighten her complexion.
I would say it makes me look younger, because when I look at pictures of myself in my 20s with really dark hair, I look terrible.
