The three winners with the first place in their respective categories will travel to the Mistura Gastronomic Fair, in Lima, Peru.
The Mercado del Río culinary contest celebrated its third anniversary this month, which culminated on Friday, November 19 with the awarding of the best hollow, the best influential restaurant and the best Ecuadorian and influential dishes.
The best hole in Mercado del Río was La Balandra restaurant (platform El Astillero), while the award for the best influential restaurant went to Nuvo (ship El Carmen).
While, for the twelve finalists in the categories of best dishes of Ecuadorian cuisine of Mercado del Río and best dishes of influence cuisine, customers participated by voting for two weeks. The counting of the ballots revealed to the twelve finalists. Those chosen cooked live for a jury made up of Federico Trujillo, executive chef of the Union Club; Luis Heinert Cordovez and José Rafael Lucas, administrator and chef of The Old Porto Cat; and Juan Xavier Romero, restaurant operations and kitchen manager Second Pier.
In the first category, the Albacore sancocho from La Esquina de Beto. Second place went to La Balandra’s crab hose broth. And the third, for the yapingacho fry from La Chanchada.
Among the best cuisine dishes influenced by Mercado del Río were the piqueo Nuvo (first place), the Creole pavilion of the Arepa Café restaurant (second place) and the Mediterranean octopus of Cosa Nostra (third place).
