The journalist, presenter and music critic Carlos Tena (Madrid, 1943) has passed away this Friday at 79 years old.

Carlos Tena, passionate about the latest trends and young talents, has provided public radio and television with a universe of new sounds since the 1960s. For decades he raised cultural journalism to another level.

In RTVE he presented the programs ‘Popgrama’ and ‘A uan ba buluba balam bamboo’. According to the Corporation, he was “one of the most popular faces” on television “thanks to his naturalnessto his rebellious attitude and his revolutionaries musical programs”. Artists such as Mike Oldfield, Queen, AC/DC, Patti Smith or Bob Marley. The host also hosted Alaska’s television debut.

He began his career at Radio Nacional, where he presented the program ‘Hablando de Discos’. In 1973 he was appointed delegate of music programs for the public broadcaster to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). He also directed and presented ‘For you young people’which was the National Radio Award, Popular Classics (1976), ‘Discofrenia’ (1980), ‘A la Luna, a las dos y las tres’ (1982) or ‘En el aire’ (1983).

One of the most remembered moments of his career was the performance of the Vulpes group in the program ‘Caja de ritmos’, with the theme ‘Me gusta ser una zorra’, which led to the definitive cancellation of the show. After his departure from TVE, the communicator continued to present various musical programs on other television channels such as Telecinco, Antena 3 or Onda Cero.

Between 1980 and 1985 he was also multi-album producer for groups like Mario Tenia, Johnny Comomollo, Tilburi and Paraíso. He published articles in numerous newspapers (Pueblo, Madrid, Diario 16, El Mundo…) and magazines (Mundo Joven, Discóbolo, Triunfo, La Calle, Mundo Obrero, El Siglo, Cambio 16, El Papus). He was also the author of the ‘Historia del Blues’ collection for Editorial Altaya (1996).
