Mujer Hoy magazine shares the opinion of several experts on what happened to Princess Leonor’s previously invisible fangs.
“There were two scenarios: that his canines were embedded in the bone and could not erupt or, somewhat less commonly, that he suffered from agenesis, a congenital pathology. From the photos of his last appearances, we can say that he still had his fangs retained and they had to be pulled with rubber bands and clips”, commented Dr. Eugenia Cervantes for the aforementioned newspaper.

The specialist went into detail when he mentioned how orthodontic treatment with “sapphire brackets” would correct the defect in Leonora’s teeth.
“First, they were placed only in the premolar area, leaving the front incisors free. They probably opened a surgical window, that is, a small window between the gum and the bone to place a bracket and pull those teeth,” he added.
His explanation coincides with that of Dr. Irene Esteva, an expert in dentofacial aesthetics, who confirmed that Leonora’s canines were “hidden.”

“In the before photograph of Princess Leonor, we see that there are two absences in the canine area, which makes us think that these pieces must be included (within the palate). This can be inferred because the lateral incisors are slightly tilted, something that is usually characteristic of this type of problem,” said Esteve.
According to his explanation, Leonor would go through “retraction of said fangs towards the oral area,” a process he described as rapid.
What is canine or canine traction?
Mujer Hoy quotes Irene Esteve as explaining that it is a procedure that uses materials “such as microscrews or wires” to lower the canine into the position of the other teeth.
Then the canine is placed back into place and “alignment” is carried out with the help of a bracket.

“When the canines came down to the arch, they put brackets on all the pieces to continue aligning her smile,” added Dr. Cervantes, who believes this new smile will give Leonor more personality.
“You can see that they end on a point and that means they can have a strong character. Often the shape of our canines tells us what we are like,” the expert noted. (AND)
