Gladiolus, that is Gladiolus L. is a plant of the iris family. It is found in Europe, Western Asia and Africa. Two species of gladiolus grow in Poland: marsh gladiolus (Gladiolus palustris) and tile gladiolus (G. imbricatus). It is true that gladioli contain a substance with antidepressant properties, and some species have edible tubers, but gladioli have made a career primarily as ornamental plants. They have spectacular flowers in many colors (from white, through salmon, to pink and purple) and look great in the garden and on the balcony.
When to plant gladioli?
Gladioli are not demanding plants, it is best to plant them in sunny (also slightly shaded) and sheltered from the wind parts of the garden. This last rule is always followed by experienced gardeners, because they know that in other places, these flowers will not feel good. Gladioli should be planted in a fertile, humus and permeable substrate, it is best to start in the second half of April (you can do it until the end of May). Gladiolus tubers are planted at a depth of 6-10 cm.

What should I do to keep gladioli from falling over?
In an inexperienced gardener, gladioli, when they bloom, sometimes fall over. This is especially true of tall varieties that collapse and even break under the weight of their flowers. This happens when they are planted too shallow or grow in a place that is not sheltered from the wind. To prevent this, gladioli can be ligated. Experienced gardeners recommend special bamboo plant supports that can be purchased at a garden store, but also plastic nets and ladders designed for this purpose.
