He was in the war when he found out that his first child would be born. He surprised his wife

The separation of couples hurts more with the knowledge that one of the parties can die at any moment. Such thoughts plagued the wife of Harold Leroy Rahming, who was serving in the US Army. When the information reached him that his partner would soon give birth to their first child, he did not hesitate for a second and decided to surprise her.

Cara Rahming spent most of her pregnancy alone. Her husband, Harold, was serving in the United States National Guard at the time. However, he did not leave in the most important moment and one of the key moments for their marriage and welcomed their first child into the world.

Complications and surprises

At the end of September 2022, a moving story was published on the official fan page of Advocate Health Care, which happened in one of the American hospitals. Soldier Harold Leroy Rahming was granted permission to return from his mission in Iraq ahead of schedule and thus be able to accompany his beloved during the birth. In front of his eyes, the first son was born, who received a not accidental name – Harold Leroy II. Not only was the father in a hurry – the boy was also born earlier than planned due to health complications when his heart rate began to slow.

Harold had planned for weeks to surprise his wife by returning earlier than he had originally planned to return home – in mid-October. With the help of family, friends and the team who cared for Cara in [Advocate Christ Medical Center]managed to pay her a visit to the hospital room

– we read in the Advocate Health Care post, accompanied by photos from the event.

The whole undertaking, however, was not the simplest.

There was a moment where I thought it wouldn’t work. I had been stationed in Iraq for three months and had been making phone calls all the time to find out if early release was even possible. I found out that there is a chance for September 22nd, luckily I managed to go to the hospital earlier.

the man told Good Morning America. Luck actually favored him, because the boy was born on September 17, 2022.

Mostly she was happy

The man managed to enter the room unnoticed when his partner went to the toilet.

I gathered the nurses and they were all ready to surprise her. We just waited for it to come out.

Harold recalled on Good Morning America. Before Cara saw her husband, her outstretched phones caught her attention. She did not understand why she was being recorded.

I’ve seen a lot of nurses with their phones out. And I was like, “Wait, why are they recording me coming out of the restroom? Then I saw him on the left in full military uniform. And there are no words to express what I felt because I didn’t know he was coming home. All I knew was that I was in the hospital, going through an induction, and having a baby soon, there were a lot of emotions to process, but I can tell that the dominant one I felt at the time was joy.

she said. She has not seen her husband for several months. Harold Leroy Rahming II was born the next day. – He is so cute. You can immediately see his cheerful spirit and gentleness. All you have to do is see how he smiles and wants to play with you – that’s how Cara described her son in the program. The happy family lives together in Illinois.
