Cara Rahming spent most of her pregnancy alone. Her husband, Harold, was serving in the United States National Guard at the time. However, he did not leave in the most important moment and one of the key moments for their marriage and welcomed their first child into the world.

Complications and surprises

Soldier Harold Leroy Rahming was granted permission to return from his mission in Iraq ahead of schedule and thus be able to accompany his beloved during the birth. In front of his eyes, the first son was born, who received a not accidental name – Harold Leroy II. Not only was the father in a hurry – the boy was also born earlier than planned due to health complications when his heart rate began to slow.

There was a moment where I thought it wouldn’t work. I had been stationed in Iraq for three months and had been making phone calls all the time to find out if early release was even possible. I found out that there is a chance for September 22nd, luckily I managed to go to the hospital earlier.

I’ve seen a lot of nurses with their phones out. And I was like, “Wait, why are they recording me coming out of the restroom? Then I saw him on the left in full military uniform. And there are no words to express what I felt because I didn’t know he was coming home. All I knew was that I was in the hospital, going through an induction, and having a baby soon, there were a lot of emotions to process, but I can tell that the dominant one I felt at the time was joy.
