The tenor from San Sebastian Xabier Andúaga will make its debut this Thursday, April 13, at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where it will also perform on the 16th, 22nd, 29th and 29th of this month. The 27-year-old singer will play the character of Nemorino in “L’elisir d’amore”, the opera written by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti at the beginning of the 19th century.

That role has been played before by the Mexican star of lyrical singing Javier Camarena, in this same production by Barlett Sher directed by the Italian maestro Michele Gamba, in which Anduaga’s debut has generated great expectation, after winning, among others, the Opera World International Award for Best Young Singer in 2021.

Donizetti’s comedy is set in this version in a small Italian town at the time of the Risorgimento, but it is curious that in its first versions the action took place in a small town in the Basque Country.
