The festival Zinebi de Bilbao has awarded its Grand Prize of this edition, endowed with 7000 euros, to “North Pole”, a Macedonian-Serbian short film about female desire in adolescence directed by Marija Apcevska.
The director of the Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival, Vanesa Fernandez, has made public this Friday the ZINEBI awards, together with the members of the international juries.
The jury considers that “North Pole” is “a film as delicate as the face of its protagonist, that describes the feminine desire like something that flows between the hope, the obligation, the pressure and a sweet liberation”.
The Basque Cinema Grand Prize has been awarded to “From surface to surface”, an animation work by Mel Arranz, which is part of the Kimuak short film selection.
The Spanish Cinema Grand Prize went to “Descartes”, by Concha Barquero and Alejandro Alvarado, a short documentary that brings together the discards of the documentary “Rocío”, which was censored in 1980.
In the International Zinebi First Film Competition, the Grand Prize, of 12,000 euros, went to “Rock Bottom Riser”, a documentary by the American Fern Silva; The Special Mention went to the feature film “Faya Dayi”, by Jessica Beshir; and the Young Jury Prize went to “Los Fundadores”, by Mexican director Diego Hernández.
Finally, Maider Oleaga won the award for the best Basque script for “Kinka”, and the EITB Audience Award went to “Milý tati” (“Love, Dad”), a Czech and Slovak co-production.
