Artur Barci¶ about the new “Znachorze”: It can be a great success

Artur Barci¶ is the only actor who played in the cult adaptation of “Znachor” from 1981, directed by Jerzy Hoffman, and will also appear in the new version, which will debut on Netflix this year. Now he will play a completely new character, and he talked about his approach to the new adaptation in a recent interview.

“Znachor” opened the way to success in acting for Artur Barcis. It was the first major production in which he took part. He played there the son of the miller Prokop – Wasylek, who, after the operation of badly fused bones, starts to walk thanks to the intervention of the title character.

At the beginning of this year, it was announced that Netflix was working on a new version of the adaptation of Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz’s novel. This idea evokes extreme emotions in society. Some people think it will be hard to match Hoffman’s production. However, there are also voices that after forty years it would be worth showing this history anew.

Artur Barciś will play in the new adaptation of “Znachor”

The actor was recently a guest in , where he spoke about the new adaptation of “Znachor”, which will be directed by Michał Gazda. He admitted that he wasn’t thrilled with the idea at first, but decided to take part in this production after reading the script:

I was very skeptical when I found out that a new »Quack« was going to be implemented. When I got the offer to star in it, I asked for the script and read it from cover to cover and I have to admit that I liked it. It was fantastic to read and the role I was offered was also interesting

Barciś is to play the role of Count Czyński’s butler. Later, he also talked about the advantages of creating a new adaptation. He draws attention to the development of technology and the way of presenting the film, which, thanks to its premiere in streaming, can become popular all over the world:

Back then, there were no drones, there were no cameras of such quality, there was no whole envelope thanks to which a film can be visually richer. The cast is also excellent. A slightly different approach to these main characters. I really liked that too. It seems to me that it can be a great success, especially since it will be presented by Netflix, which means it can be a hit on a global scale

In the earlier part of the conversation, however, he talked about the phenomenon of the 1981 film. He said that he is not surprised that people are so eager to watch him, despite the fact that they know him perfectly. He also added that in his opinion, the greatest credit for the success of the production goes to the director, Jerzy Hoffman:

We actors just did our job. The greatest credit goes to Jerzy Hoffman, screenplay and editing. It’s all done in such a way as to evoke emotions in us. That’s what this film is for, to move us, to entertain us sometimes, but in this case mainly to move us.
