Hardly anyone can refrain from humming when they hear the first notes of the hit “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” or the song “Stars”. The Simply Red group started their career in the 80s, and in the 90s they were still on the wave. The band founded by Mick Hucknall has one of the best-selling albums in British history and has sold over 50 million records. The leader of the formation was recently a guest of “The One Show” on the BBC, where he announced a surprise for his fans.

Mick Hucknall has the status of a music icon in the UK and beyond – he has been one of the biggest stars of British popular music since the debut of his band Simply Red. Starting with the release of the first album “Picture Book” in 1985, the group recorded ten hits with a light hand, which climbed to the top ten of the UK Singles Chart. Moreover, the songs “Holding Back the Years” and “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” reached number one on the prestigious US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Five Simply Red albums gained the status of the most popular music releases in the UK, and the album Stars” from 1991 remains one of the best-selling albums in British music history.

In 2010, the group suspended its activities to return to concerts on its 30th anniversary. Mick Hucknall is invariably at the head of the formation and on “The One Show” he announced that he will play a surprise concert.

Simply Red recently released a new album “Time”, which will be promoted this summer during a European tour. However, before the musicians go deep into the continent, they will warm up on June 5, reports. Hucknall said:

The band will play with the same line-up since 2003, which means that you will also be able to see saxophonist Ian Kirkham on stage. “I want them to have fun, people to get up and have fun, and I want everyone to put their heart into it. It’s all about feeling the rhythm,” says the frontman. On June 9, the group will perform in Dubai, then move their show to Denmark, where they will perform on June 16. The next stops are Belgium, Croatia, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Spain. Unfortunately, Poland was missing from the musical list, but the group will perform several times in neighboring Germany, including Berlin. Hucknall is already starting to announce a tour for the band’s 40th anniversary and emphasizes that the surprise concert is the last opportunity before 2025 to hear him live in his homeland.
