Alex Whalen of Blake Shelton’s team has resigned from the show. The musician led with his decision to an unusual situation in which his opponent Neil Salsich sang a jointly prepared song alone and automatically advanced to the knockouts. No reasons were given during the show for Whalen’s departure from the show. This is the first mid-show withdrawal since the 14th competitive season.

The artist recorded a video in which he informed fans about what happened. The musician published a recording entitled “Farewell to Voice”, in which he explained that just before the battles he fell ill with COVID-19. A positive test result excluded the artist from the competition. Whalen noted that he is feeling well and will be back on stage soon, he also thanked all the fans who supported him during his participation in the program as well as the coach and his entire team.
Alex Whalen is from London and currently lives in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. The 43-year-old worked as a London Underground driver, but left his job to pursue a music career. According to the portal, in 2015 he and his family started a whole new life in South Carolina, five years later he changed his place of residence again. Since then, he has been performing at local Florida bars six nights a week.
During the blind auditions, Whalen wowed the judges with his rendition of “Help Me Make It Through the Night” by Kris Kristofferson, which was covered in the 1970s by Sammie Smith. The artist not only sang the hit, but also played the acoustic guitar for the audience. The chairs were turned by two coaches – Blake Shelton and Chance the Rapper. Whalen surprised no one when he chose a well-known country performer.
