“I almost died, but thank God I’m here”. This is how the dancer spoke this Monday Joaquin Cortes upon leaving the La Princesa hospital in Madrid, where he had been admitted since April 3 after suffering a fainting spell while playing with his children.

“I arrived at the emergency room with very little oxygen saturation in my blood, I was tired,” he said at the gates of the hospital. “It has been something unexpected, something surreal, I thought I had the flu and I almost died“, he assured. “The most important thing is that we are here,” he insisted.

“They will have done more than 20 tests, I have suffered a fairly serious pulmonology,” Cortés detailed, who has been diagnosed with asthma since he was a child. “And coincidentally, dancing has been my antidote, it has saved me”, he has affirmed. “I do not have the definitive discharge, I still have teststhe doctors are finding out what I have,” he specified.

It has been very serious, a tremendous scarebut there is no harm that does not come for good, they have done a complete ITV and the doctors have told me that I have a biological age of 20 years”, said Cortés, who has emphasized that he has never smoked, is an athlete elite” and has barely drunk alcohol, beyond “a glass of wine at a meal.

I’m still not cured, I’m better. Dancing has saved me and will continue to save me; I hope to last a few more years and take Spanish culture around the world”, stressed the 54-year-old dancer with 42 years of experience behind him. “The doctors have told me that I am a physical wonder”, he added, to while thanking all the hospital staff for their work and the treatment they received: “We have wonderful public health, many countries envy us“, he asserted.

Calmly, but without pause, Cortés will resume activity, as he has reported to the media: “I can’t do the beast, I have to be quiet for a couple of weeks to recover my lungs one hundred percent,” the artist detailed, who in mid-July a world tour begins in New York. “I take it with a sense of humor, I could be dead, I’m reborn“, it is finished.
