She made her debut as a 16-year-old in 1963 at the Festival of Young Talents in Szczecin, where she competed, among others, with with Tadeusz Nalepa, Czes³aw Niemen and Zdzisława Sośnicka. In the 1960s and 1970s, she collaborated with the bands Tarpany, ABC, Czerwono-Czarni and Drumlersi.

Halina Frąckowiak’s first husband was Krzysztof Bukowski, with whom she divorced after 7 years. After the divorce, she became involved with the journalist Józef Szaniawski. The artist had no idea that she was active in the opposition and collaborated with Radio Free Europe. In December 1980, their son, Filip, was born.
Frąckowiak learned that Szaniawski was involved in underground activity in 1985, when he was arrested. He was accused of espionage, considered a traitor and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The authorities confiscated the singer’s property, claiming it was spy work. To protect her son from the repercussions, she changed his name.
Szaniawski regained his freedom on December 22, 1989, he was considered the last political prisoner of the People’s Republic of Poland. Just two months later, on her way to a concert in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Frąckowiak had a serious accident. There was a risk that she would not walk. She underwent a major operation and a long rehabilitation. – I felt I shouldn’t have gone to that concert – in 2005 in an interview with Onet. However, she managed to recover and today the singer is not slowing down.
