Starsky and Hutch was a popular American television series that aired between 1975 and 1979 on ABC. Their protagonists Paul Michael Glaserin the role of David Starsky, i David Soul Playing Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson, they mixed action, comedy and drama.

Both of them formed an unforgettable duo that will be remembered for their fast movement Red Ford Gran Torino with a white stripe. On screen, the vehicle was owned by Starsky, but in real life it became a big deal for the Ford brand by creating a limited edition.

What happened to the protagonists Starsky and Hutch?

The series was discontinued in 1979, when its popularity began to decline. But a quarter of a century later, it served as the inspiration for the movie “Starsky & Hutch”, which was released in 2004 with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as protagonists. Glaser also tried his hand as a director, which led him to be behind the series “Miami Vice, Las Vegas”, and then directed “The Running Man” (1987) and “The Cutting Edge” (1992) in theaters.

Argentinian media recall that in 1980 he married actress Elizabeth Glaser, who contracted the AIDS virus from a blood transfusion in 1981 when she gave birth to their first daughter, whom they named Ariel. Elizabeth finally died in 1994, after setting up a foundation in her name to care for young people with AIDS. Paul was in front of her.

Then the actor married a second time in 1996 to film producer Tracy Barone, from whom he divorced a decade later. At that time they had a daughter whom they named Zoe.

He remained current in acting with brief appearances in series such as “The Mentalist”, “Criminal Minds” or “Grace & Frankie”.

For his part, David Soul will find himself the same age as Glaser in August of this year. During her participation in the cult series in the 70s, she launched herself as a singer, and her song Don’t Give Up on Us reached the number one spot on the Billboard charts.

Soul devoted himself to other work in the cinema until his personal life was marred by alcohol problems in the 1980s, which turned him into a violent man.

One of his biggest scandals was the report of gender violence when he beat his third wife, Carnel Sherman, when she was seven months pregnant. This situation landed him in prison and he was forced to receive therapy.

A decade later, he moved to London, where he obtained citizenship after a few years. He personally has five marriages and a total of six children.

He remake which was produced in 2004, marked the return of Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul to acting by appearing in cameos as both characters.

El Mundo de España mentions that he squandered his wealth on alcohol and shooting unprofitable documentaries. He currently lives modestly in London with his fifth wife, Helen Snell.

In 2017, the two attended MCM Comic Con in Liverpool, England as guests. There they shared a stand and offered a performance. For this event, actors starred in pictures that moved millions of fans around the world.

In the photos, Soul is seen in a wheelchair due to difficulty walking, being pushed by his lifelong friend Paul Michael Glaser. Too thin and with traces of time, David showed a damaged appearance and is currently 79 years old.

Will Starsky & Hutch return to the screen?

In February 2023, it was announced that Fox plans to continue Starsky and Hutch with a new version, this time starring a woman. This decision prompted actor David Soul to take to his Twitter account, Mail Online reports.

“Every article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not restart Paul and I as a pair of old friends solving petty crimes in the welfare facility where we would now live? Who can make Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?” he wrote in a clear rejection of the new version. (AND)
