“500 plus for a senior” is a colloquial name for supplementary support for people incapable of independent existence and is available not only to pensioners. “500 plus for a senior” paid by ZUS. Who can count on extra money?
When looking for opportunities to supplement the household budget, it is worth taking an interest in the benefit granted by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS). Some may receive an additional PLN 500 every month if they meet the appropriate conditions. Any adult person who meets the required conditions can apply for the so-called “500 plus for seniors”. The benefit is colloquially referred to in this way, because it most often goes to retirees. So who can count on a supplementary benefit for people unable to live independently?
- You must be over 18;
- You must be a person incapable of independent existence;
- The person may not be entitled to receive a pension or allowance (except for a one-time allowance) or may receive them, but their total amount should not exceed PLN 2,157.80;
- You must live in Poland and have Polish citizenship, the right of residence or permanent residence in Poland.
It is also worth remembering that the supplementary benefit for persons incapable of independent existence is not payable to a person who is under arrest or is serving a prison sentence. The exception is deprivation of liberty under the electronic monitoring system.
What to do to get extra money? Submit the relevant documents
In addition to meeting the necessary conditions, you must also submit the appropriate documents to ZUS in order to apply for additional money. A monthly benefit of PLN 500 will be given to a person who provides:
- a completed form for a supplementary benefit for persons incapable of independent existence;
- a document confirming the inability to live independently;
- a final judgment of the court in which the right to receive the benefit was granted.
However, if a given person does not have a certificate confirming the inability to live independently or the period for which it was issued has expired, the following must be attached to the submitted application: OL-9 certificate, medical documentation and other documents that will help in making the decision, documentation of medical or vocational rehabilitation and a certificate severely disabled. All necessary documents must be submitted in person, through a proxy or using an operator.
