Stein was born on April 18, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, and is remembered as one of the most influential people in the music industry in the 1970s and 1980s. For many years he shaped the tastes of international listeners and it was he, together with his wife Linda, who promoted many artists who went down in the history of music. This group includes e.g. The Cure, Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode, Lou Reeda, Ice-T, Madonna, Talking Heads, The Pretenders, The Ramones, Seal, or Soft Cell.

As for the latter band, the success of their biggest hit, “Tainted Love”, which hit the top of the charts, is also due to Stein, who was in charge of the band at the time.

Madonna says goodbye to her former producer. “Changed my life”

The news of his death caused a great stir on social media. One of the people who decided to pay tribute to him is Madonna, with whom he started collaborating in 1983. “Seymour Stein has left us! I need to catch my breath. He was one of the most influential people in my life. He changed and shaped my world,” the singer wrote in a Facebook post.

Stein and Madonna met through producer Michael Rosenblatt, whom the artist met at the New York club “Danceteria”, where one of the DJs agreed to play her songs. When Rosenblatt heard them, he proposed to the young girl to introduce her to his boss, Stein.

The record producer was in the hospital at the time due to heart problems, but Madonna was so determined that she visited him in the hospital and gave him her demo. “He smiled and asked if I was related to the Mother of God. That’s when I knew we’d get along great. I played him my song several times. On the same day, I signed a contract with his record company,” recalls Madonna.

They both worked together until 1992, when the artist decided to start her own label. However, they remained on good terms until the end. Madonna always fondly recalled this period. “Dearest Seymour, I will never forget you! Thank you,” she concluded her post.
