He was the first father from the world of Polish show business to openly talk about his sexual orientation. In “Replika”, a magazine dedicated to the LGBT+ community, he confessed everything, including the difficulties associated with the need to be honest with his wife. How did Michał Sieczkowski’s career develop?

For a long time, he was mainly associated with the series “Plebania”, where he played Mateusz Wojciechowski, son of Barbara and Piotr. Later, the actor became famous thanks to his coming out in 2009 on the pages of “Replika”. Today, he is a model for those who have felt forced to hide their orientation for years – they know that it is never too late to throw off the burden of lying to loved ones and to themselves.

He kept the secret all the way to the altar

Although Sieczkowski was briefly married to a woman, he knew he was gay as a 12-year-old boy. He confessed to his parents three years later, but publicly announced it long after he reached the age of majority. The actor tried to hide his homosexuality – he got married and had a son, Wojciech. At the altar, however, he felt he could no longer pretend. He confessed everything to his wife shortly after formalizing the relationship.

Parting was difficult and painful for us, but we managed to get along. It was also clear from the beginning that she would not interfere with contact with the child, that we would act above divisions for the good of Wojtek.

he said. Good contact with his son has always been a priority for him. He took him on vacation with his then partner, a friend from college – Wiktor, and from the very beginning he approached the subject of his own sexuality naturally, thus teaching him openness.

I decided that speaking is better than not speaking. My natural attitude towards homosexuality is also a shield for my child, a confirmation that it is not a bad thing.

Replica explained. To this day, he has a close relationship with his son, and over time his contact with his ex-wife has also improved. “I owe her a lot,” says Sieczkowski. However, his relationship with Victor fell apart. He finally found love with the Czech director Lukáš Trpišovský, with whom he was connected by profession. He was the first to openly call him his partner.

The cost of honesty

Sieczkowski had to pay a heavy price for living in harmony with himself and his loved ones. At the time of his coming out, the Polish industry, unaccustomed to such a state of affairs, rejected the actor and he no longer received any significant role. He decided to look for salvation in the Czech Republic, where he also found his current love. This direction must have been written for him – he made his debut in the Czech film “Pramen zivota” in 2000. In addition to acting in films and TV series, he worked as a translator – he translated, among others, “Love a Blonde” by Miloš Forman. He also developed as a director (he made his debut in this profession in 2005 with “Sallinger”).

With Trpišovský, he also staged plays in the country, e.g. at the Wrocław Puppet Theatre. Therefore, he did not completely abandon his ties with Poland – here, together with Kacper Kuszewski, Anna Gajewska and Agata Buzek, he founded the Arteria Art Foundation, operating since 2004. He was also the coordinator of Rewizja theater projects. He is also active as an activist – on the Mysloseksie.pl portal he touched on the essence of regular HIV testing.
